Maps.com hires Bill Spicer as eCommerce Manager

Maps.com welcomes Bill Spicer as the new eCommerce Manager to their Goleta HQ.

As eCommerce manager Spicer’s primary function is to oversee both daily operations and long-range growth of Maps.com’s online map store optimizing sales, product range and logistics.

Spicer, who helped start Maps.com in 1991, (then Magellan Geographix) brings with him a wealth of more than 20 years of experience from map companies in the USA & Australia, in the various roles. He also launched a publishing company, and this entrepreneurial spirit was a key factor in his appointment.

“Bills brings with him a wealth of experience and an established reputation – his hire will add further momentum to the growth of Maps.com in traditional markets and new opportunities that we are pursuing,” revealed Maps.com VP of Online Business, Jeff Chappell.

Spicer is a former Geography graduate from the University of Oregon. He also served on the Board of Directors for the International Map Trade Association (IMTA) from 2000-2004, and was President of IMTA in 2003.

Rushing to Hire New Programming Expertise

We are pleased to announce the permanent hire of programmer Eric Rushing.

Eric, who has been working on various projects with the company on an internship basis, accepted the offer to become a full time member of the team, based in Goleta, California.

A graduate of Cal State Northridge, Rushing has applied his computer science qualifications in a number of business environments and to a variety of products including the development of web-based control applications for energy production.

His primary focus will be the continued development of the company’s multi-platform internet and mobile application programs, including products targeted at newspapers, education and businesses.

“I relish the opportunity to create systems that improve lives, from the living room to the classroom,” he revealed. “Maps.com operates in a number of different markets through several divisions, which will provide variety as well as some welcome pressure to deliver,”

He will also assist with the development of the company’s already strong web presence, such as the online map store which can receive more than 2 million visitors each month.
